2015: The Year to Break Out

POSTED: 01-09-2015 IN: Your Weekly Weapon With David Farbman

I’m not a big believer in resolutions. They get you all fired up and one month into a new year those goals often lay by the wayside, trampled on by bigger, more insistent needs. So each New Year’s Eve, I set aside an hour during my peak activity window to visualize the path I want to travel over the next 365 days. I always start with a recap, a movie in my mind, that highlights the successes and challenges of the previous year, then transition into how I will leverage those events on the path ahead. This translates into a tool I can meditate on and recall whenever I find myself on an unknown trail – is this a short cut or a diversion? – a map I can visualize to keep me on the hunt.

The key component of this visualization is to cast yourself into the role you most desire: who do you want to be in 2015? The hero? The hunter? The sidekick or the star? And then add details: What does that look like? What does it feel like? How will it help you on your journey to greatness?

When you are the best YOU on an individual level you will add the most value to the sum of your company, your family, your life. I asked these questions of my team at HealthRise and I cannot tell you how amazing the answers were! Ask yourself the following questions to position yourself for a break out 2015:

  • Where can you sharpen a skill that will help you excel?
  • How can you be your best?
  • How can you leverage your teammates (and they you) to add maximum value?
  • What is standing in your way?

When you take the time to picture your future and add in the details, you will be able to feel and hear, see and touch, almost experience your hunt before you are even on it. Your vision will carry you through to the break out moment that will lead to your success.

I’d love to hear who you plan to be in 2015! Email me at david@dfarbman.com and let’s get on the hunt together!
